So, you’ve spent several days decluttering your entire house. The rooms are all neat and organized, but your garage is another story. Full of boxes, bags of clothing, and a plethora of stuff you no longer need or want, the space looks like a disaster area.
Hopefully, you’ve sorted your unwanted stuff into two categories: a “donate” pile and a “sell” pile. Of course, donating everything is the easiest solution to getting rid of your declutter hoard, but if you have things that are worth something and you’re game for going the extra mile, you can try to sell them. Either way, here are a few things to help you in the task of getting rid of all that stuff.
For The Things You Want To Donate
The easiest thing to do is gather up all the “donate” pile and take it to Goodwill where they will sort it for sale or further donation. If you wish, you can sort the stuff yourself and give it to specific charities that can use it.
Alternately, you can post all your free things on Facebook Marketplace as “Free for the Taking,” and leave it all at the curb. In your post, be sure to list the available items and how long you’ll leave them out there. Remember to take the post down once all the items are gone or you take the stuff back in.
For The Stuff You Want To Sell
For the things that have some value, and you don’t mind putting effort into selling them, you have several options.
First, you can photograph and list yourself the items you want to sell. Sites like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and Poshmark are all great selling platforms for gently used clothing, household goods, and more.
If you have a lot of clothing, you may want to look for a local consignment shop that buys used but in good shape clothing to resell. In some cases, these shops will take your clothing and sell them for you, taking a small fee off the top of the profits.
Finally, if your community/neighborhood has its own Buy, Sell, or Trade group on Facebook, this is a good place to get rid of the stuff you don’t want anymore. Because the buyers are local people, it’s easy to coordinate pickup and/or delivery times quickly.
Now that the decluttering process is complete, it’s time to get rid of all that stuff you no longer need or want. Luckily, your garage won’t look like a disaster area for long if you follow the tips above for donating and selling these items.
